SILKEE BOOK CLUB SUMMER READING 2024
SILKEE BOOK CLUB + DANCE CLASS, a Silk Studio Exclusive
“Let us read and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world.” – VOLTAIRE
I know we’re currently in the throes of Spring but I’m already looking ahead to Summer.
Summertime is great. Longer days, cookouts, movie dates, vacations, and if you’re in Houston, temperatures and heat indexes in the triple digits.
I love Summer. I have fond and happy memories of spending summer mornings perusing shelves at my local library and afternoons with my nose in a book, devouring one right after another. I loved summer reading challenges and then later, assignments.
Soaking up the cool gusts of an air conditioner or stretched out on a towel on the beach, it doesn’t matter. You know gobbling up a book (or three) during the summer season is a vibe.
Silk Studio is welcoming summer with 3 books on the summer reading list. I’ve curated the studio’s Book Club + Dance Class options to include spice, inspiration, and some thrills. These books are easy, casual, and fun reads.
Drumroll, please…
Praise by Sara Cate (June)
“As an owner of the Salacious Players’ Club, Emerson Grant knows exactly what he wants and isn’t shy about his particular tastes. But when he mistakes Charlie for a candidate to be his new submissive instead of his son’s ex-girlfriend, he immediately tries to correct the situation.”
Spicy books are a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine. Over the years, I’ve learned that it’s also a pleasure for many of the folx that come through the studio’s doors. This book has warnings for graphic sexual content and toxic relationships. It’s got 4/5 stars on Storygraph and Goodreads both. We’re discussing this book in June 2024.
Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid (July)
“Carrie Soto is fierce…the best player the world has ever seen. She has shattered every record and claimed twenty Grand Slam titles. But six years after her retirement, Carrie finds herself sitting in the stands of the 1994 US Open, watching her record be taken from her by a brutal, stunning player named Nicki Chan. At thirty-seven years old, Carrie makes the monumental decision to come out of retirement and be coached by her father for one last year in an attempt to reclaim her record.”
One of my first selections for the Silkee Book Club was Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones and The Six. I’ve been a fan of her writing ever since. I love diving into the worlds of her protagonists. Even better, I love that there are little cameos of characters across her books latest books. This selection is part of the “Reidverse” and has 4 stars on Storygraph and Goodreads. We’re discussing this book in July 2024.
First Lie Wins by Ashley Easton (August)
“The novel follows Evie Porter, a con artist hired by a mysterious employer to infiltrate the life of a handsome businessman. Evie sinks deeper into this false life, and the job slowly starts to spiral out of her control.”
I was recently on Storygraph and checked on my stats. Apparently my dominant genre is Thriller and I love dark, tense, mysterious reads. So it’s not a longshot that I included a fast-paced tense and mysterious book to round out the summer reading with this August selection. This book was also a selection of Reese’s Book Club and has 4 stars on Storygraph and Goodreads. This book is being discussed in August 2024.
You might be a fast reader and demolish books like I do freshly baked cookies and three books is light work. If that’s the case, the selections listed above may not be enough. Here’s a list of some of the books from Silkee Book Club’s past:
- Neon Gods by Katee Robert (spicy and dark)
- Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia (dark and twisted)
- The Woman In Me by Britney Spears (memoir)
- White Horse by Erika T. Wurth (spooky)
- These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong (a classic reimagined)
- Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur (memoir)
- Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkis Reid (nostalgic)
- Anna K by Jenny Lee (a classic reimagined)
Happy reading! I hope you enjoy our short and sweet summer reading list.
Bookishly yours,
Nikki Sinamon
